What Happens After Heart Bypass Surgery? When you have blocked arteries or what is known as coronary artery disease you will have to have a heart bypass surgery to correct it. There are many people all over the world that have this heart problem and need to have surgery.
This surgery is a common surgery and is preferred over other types of heart surgery. Now one thing you need to realize when you have this surgery is that it will help to make your heart work the way that it should but that doesn’t mean that it will go away for good. You will still have coronary artery disease and will have to change your lifestyle. You may have already started changing your lifestyle before the surgery and if you did then you need to continue with this. This is very important for your health because when you have had blocked arteries once, you are more at risk to have it again. So you need to make sure that you watch your diet and get plenty of exercise. You will also need to take any medications that you doctor gives you. The more that you follow your doctors instructions the more you will be able to recover. People most times will have either an improvement or complete relief of any symptoms and will remain symptom free for several years after the bypass surgery. Once you have this surgery you will have more of a risk of getting it again which will require more coronary bypass surgeries. The bypass surgery will improve the blood flow to the heart but it will not cure the coronary artery disease. The long term outcome and any results you notice will depend in part on how you follow a healthy lifestyle and how you follow your doctor’s recommendations. Here are some things that you need to change in your lifestyle if you have them or do them.
One thing that you will want to do is exercise but you need to find an exercise routine that will let you get the activity that you need but not overdo it. You will have limitations on some things because of your risk of heart problems. This will be something that you will want to talk to your doctor about. You can live a healthy and long life when you have coronary artery disease if you do what your doctor tells you. After heart bypass surgery your heart will work like it should but you need to pay attention to your body. If you think you are having any symptoms than you need to go to your doctor to find out. You don’t want to ignore it because it will get worse. So just because you have had surgery once doesn’t mean that you don’t need to watch for signs. You will have to know what is happening with your body at all times so that you can get any heart problems taken care of right away. |
